Microsoft Windows XP and other Microsoft operating systems can take advantage of a number of power saving measures to reduce energy costs. These power saving measures involve reducing the power supplied to various hardware components, usually after a period of inactivity. These components include the processor, hard drive, network cards, and monitor. These power saving measures are inappropriate for use in a server environment such as for Avaya IP Office VoiceMail Pro as they can cause delay in the Voicemail system response. It is advisable to disable these features on any PC that has Avaya IP Office server applications installed.
To disable power
saving for network cards:
Click the ‘Start’ button, select ‘Settings’, then ‘Control Panel’ and
open the ‘Network Connections’ applet. Right click each ‘Local Area Connection’
in turn, select ‘Properties’, press the ‘Configure’ button, select the
‘Power Management’ tab, then deselect ‘Allow the computer to turn this
device off to save power’
To disable power
saving for disk drives:
Click the ‘Start’ button, select ‘Settings’, then ‘Control Panel’ and
open the ‘Power Options’ applet. Amend the settings for ‘Turn off hard
disks’ to ‘never’.
