Microsoft Server Update Preventing CCR Logon

This Technical Tip is to advise customers of an issue that prevents users logging onto the IP Office Customer Call Reporter. Microsoft recently made a patch, KB976769V2, available as an automatic update. It has been discovered that after this update has been applied and the CCR Server restarted it may no longer be possible for users to logon to using a browser.

The following error message will appear in the Windows Event log and may also display on the web page if the login fails:

"Could not load type 'System.Security.Authentication.ExtendedProtection.ExtendedProtectionPolicy' from assembly 'System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' "

Microsoft is currently investigating issues caused by this patch. Further information can be found using this link: http://connect.microsoft.com/onecare/feedback/details/567198/

It will be necessary to uninstall this patch (KB976769v2) and restart the CCR Server in order to resolve the issue.

The update can be found within Add/Remove Programs under "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2". It is necessary to tick "Show Updates" for the patch to be visible.

It may be necessary to prevent the server from automatically downloading and installing this update again once it has been removed.
